So a couple of weeks ago I finally got my first order of e.l.f. products. I must say that so far I'm pretty impressed actually; everything is dirt cheap and works pretty good though I did get a few flops.
Brushes
Essentials Eye Shadow Brush
This brush has really nice soft bristles however it is cheaply made because instead of the bristles being nice and uniform they are cut pretty sporadically throughout but it still has a nice shape and doesn’t shed much. I like the thickness of the handle but I think it should be a bit longer. 4/5 Stars.
Essentials Blending Eye Brush
This is my first blending brush and I must say I love it! The bristles are amazing and are cut at uniform lengths (unlike my eye shadow brush) which make it look nicer. This brush also does not shed. 4.5/5 Stars.
Essentials Eye Crease Brush
I really like this brush it picks up more colour than any other brush I own. Its bristles are just as nice as the other brushes but the one I received had a bit of glue or something at the tip, I pulled off most of it but there is still a little there which gets annoying. It also sheds quite a bit in comparison to the other brushes, of course that could just be because I’m always pulling at them to get that stupid glue off them. 4/5 Stars.
Essentials Smudge Eye Sponge
I haven’t really used this brush much so I don’t have much of an opinion on it but it does have a nice firm tip. I have heard a lot of not so great things about this brush like the tip falls off easily but mine hasn’t yet so there is hope :P. I think that the tip should be a little bigger though it’s really little and precise and I’m not really liking that for smudging. 4/5 stars
Studio Kabuki Face Brush
This is my fist kabuki brush so I don’t have much to compare it to other then other powder brushes. I have been using an Annabelle powder brush for the past 3 years and I love it to death but the kabuki brush has much softer and denser bristles and it sheds much less it is also easier to wash. 4.5/5 Stars.
Face
Mineral Foundation
I’ve never used mineral foundation before but I like this because it has better coverage than a regular loose powder and it’s really light. I bought it in light with gold undertones because I have pretty yellow skin (jaundice anyone? :P) and I find it matches my skin tone exactly. The only thing i don't like is the powder is really hard to get out of the container. 4.5/5 Stars.
Essentials All Over Cover Stick
This is an amazing concealer especially considering the price ($1.00) and is comparable to the Maybelline cover sticks. It is very buildable so it provides minimum to maximum coverage. It doesn’t really blend that well if you just rub the stick on your face, I suggest rubbing your finger over it to heat it up and then use your finger to apply it. This does not apply well with a brush and if you don't heat it up enough it will go on chalky and a little clumpy. I like that it's a solid I'm not a big fan of liquid concealers 4.5/5 Stars. Mineral Eye Shadow Primer This is my first primer specific for the eyelid and also my first mineral primer. Not only does it work well as a primer (my eye shadow didn’t crease at all and I wore it for 10 hours) but it works well for minimum coverage eye concealer. I give it 4.5/5 stars and the reason for that is it feels a little chalky when you first put it on. |
Essentials Natural Radiance Blusher
I got this in glow because I need a blush that’s a little bit orange and this colour is perfect. It is really powdery and way too shimmery also the packaging is so little that all of my brushes are too big to get a proper amount of powder on the brush. I don’t think I would buy this product again and if I would have know it was so small I never would have. I think I would like the studio line of blushes better they have a nice coral colour and I know that the packaging is about twice as big. I also don’t like that the top slides I almost broke it trying to slide it as it was stuck when I first got it. 2.5 Stars
Essentials All Over Color Stick
I got this in golden peach and I’m a bit disappointed. I don’t find it is as shimmery or as peachy as it looks on the website. When I received it looked very dark and when you put it on it pretty much just looks like gold glitter. It makes an alright blush or a base for a mat bronzer you want to shimmer a bit more. There isn’t much to say about this product but it does have a good consistency and I would buy it in other colours. 3.5 Stars.
Essentials Zit Zapper
I an on acne medication but I periodically still get the occasional zit on my face and chest I put this stuff on at night before I go to bed and in the morning after I wash my face and the zit goes away pretty fast I like it because it’s a spot treatment and it doesn’t dry out my skin like the clean and clear acne spot treatment dose. 5/5 Stars.
Eyes
Essentials Waterproof Eyeliner Pen
I was really excited about this product I used to use the Maybelline pen eyeliner which I only sort of liked. I liked the applicator but I found the product was a little runny and got into my eyes and would burn (might have been an allergic reaction). So I stopped using it but then I saw this and thought for a dollar why not? When it arrived it was one of the first things I opened and I was very disappointed. It had pretty much dried up before I got it. I'm not going to rate this product with stars because I'll be bias since I've never got a chance to used the actual product.
Essentials Liquid Eye Shadow
I got this in sultry satin ... I don’t really like it, it dries WAY too quick to blend it in and it looks a little chunky and flaky when it dries. Not something I will ever buy again. 1/5 Stars.
Studio Endless Eyes Pro Mini Eye Shadow Palette – Limited Edition
I love this palette it has just the right amount of neutrals, bright colours, and greyscale. They’re nicely pigmented and come in mat, shimmery, and glitter varieties. This is an excellent product for those that think the 100 colour palette is too much. 4.5 Stars the reason its not 5/5 is there are too many glitter shadows for my liking.
Studio Eyeliner & Shadow Stick
I really like this product but I really only like the shadow part the eyeliner is a little hard for my liking. I got it in pearl and glow and it’s a great shade to give just a little pop to your eye without being too noticeable and it’s also perfect for highlighting the eye area. 4/5 Stars. I'd really like to try this in other colours to see if the liner is the same. Also when using the shadow for full lid coverage it creases pretty bad.
Essentials Eyebrow Stencil
I don’t tend to do very much with my eyebrows and I really only got this to see what it was. It’s a pretty cool idea and a really good way to get a good shape for your eyebrows. I don't think I'll use this often because I don't like how they taper no one has a round end to their eyebrows. 3.5/5 Stars.
Lips
Essentials Therapeutic Conditioning Lip Balm
I LOVE IT!!! Nothing has ever made my lips so smooth so fast. I have chronic dry lips and nothing I repeat nothing have ever worked for me but this stuff is amazing. I bought it in orange because I read in the reviews the others make your lips white ... gross! It smells sort of bad almost like a cleaning product but it doesn’t have much of a taste. This is something I would recommend to everyone and I’ve already bought more. 10/5 Stars :P
Nails
Essentials Nourishing Cuticle Pen
this is a really nice product it made my nails that were dry and splitting start to grow again. I really like this product but you really have to rub it into your nails or you’ll just have an oily film on the top. 4/5 Stars.
Essentials New Nail Block
the actual filing pads are really nice except for the polishing one I like the polishing part on the buffer I got at Wal-Mart better. The foam block that the pads are attached to is too soft you put any pressure on the pads and they bend because the block can’t take it. 3.5/5 Starts.
